Duration : 104 weeks, including 78 weeks of study period, 12 weeks of work placement and 14 weeks holiday.

Study Load : 20 hours a week in classroom and 4 hours of structured self-study.

About us

This qualification reflects the role of building professionals who manage the construction of medium rise residential and commercial buildings. Building professionals apply knowledge of building codes, standards, structural principles, tendering, cost estimation, contract administration, and project supervision.

Who should apply for this course?

This course is targeted at international students who are:

  • Seeking to pursue a career in building management, site supervision, estimating, and project management in construction
  • Seeking to gain comprehensive technical, structural, and legal knowledge required for residential and commercial building
  • Seeking a pathway to higher-level qualifications or university degrees in construction management

Completing this course may provide students with employment and further study opportunities. Potential employment options include construction management, contract administration, project management, and site supervision.

Graduates who wish to continue their education may pursue Bachelor degree qualifications in construction management or project management.

You are required to bring your own laptop with Office 365 (or similar program) to all classes. Details will be provided to you at your orientation.

Resource Requirements

The building and construction industry requires that training and assessment be conducted in a real or closely simulated workplace environment. All units within this qualification must be delivered under these conditions to ensure accurate managerial and technical skill development.

Training and assessment information

The timetable for this course will be provided to you on orientation, this is subject to change.

Class sessions include a mix of theory and practical activities with a focus on creating a real-life workplace environment.

For the self-study, you will be provided with a self-study guide which includes activities which you must complete and hand into your trainer and assessor each week.

In addition to classroom based learning and structured self-study, you will also need to complete approximately 5 hours of additional, unsupervised study per week including general reading and research for assessments.

The work placement component is a total of 240 hours which should be completed within the course duration. The work placement must be completed only with an approved provider. We may assist you to find a work placement or you can find your own. Your work placement will be discussed in detail with you once you start your course.

Please note that you will also need to complete a police check before going on placement and this will be at your own cost.

At the beginning of each unit, your trainer and assessor will outline the assessment tasks that must be completed.

Your classes will be conducted in modern classrooms and workshops and you will be able to access Wi-Fi. There are also areas for you to relax, as well as conduct additional study.

You will be provided with a Student Guide relevant to each unit in your course. Textbooks are also available onsite for you to use and borrow if you wish.

As part of the entry requirements, you will participate in a course entry interview to determine suitability for the course and student needs. This will also include an LLN assessment and you must achieve ACSF 3 for reading, writing, numeracy and oral communication to enter the course.

Entry Requirements

  • Have an IELTS* score of 6.0 (test results must be no more than 2 years old). English language competence can also be demonstrated through documented evidence of any of the following.
  • Educated for 5 years in an English-speaking country
  • OR

  • Completed at least 6 months of a Certificate IV level course in an Australian RTO
  • OR

  • Successful completion of an English Placement Test.
  • Pre-requisite Entry Requirement:

    Prerequisite of either the CHC33021 or CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability), or completion of the CHC30408 Certificate III in Disability along with the CHCSS00125 Entry to Certificate IV in Disability Support Skill Set.

  • Note: The other English language tests such as PTE and TOEFL can be accepted. You are required to provide your results so that we can confirm they are equivalent to IELTS 6.0.

How Can You Apply?

There are no specific educational prerequisites for entry into this course, as entry into this level is based on an assessment of English language proficiency. Students will be assessed by Australian Sovereign College at orientation using the Placement Test and interview.

The applicant must be 18 years old or above.

They will then be placed in the appropriate class level as follows:

  • Beginner
  • Elementary
  • Pre-intermediate
  • Intermediate
  • Upper-intermediate
  • Advanced
